Simple vs Comprehensive

When you restore Active Directory on the same computer, you can choose to do a simple restore or a comprehensive restore.

A simple restore will restore only the Active Directory database on the same computer.

A comprehensive is needed to restore AD on a different computer. It will restore essential data that, while technically not part of the AD database, is closely connected with Active Directory. It includes (for example) the Domain Name Server (DNS) database.
