Moving IIS Security Settings

Internet Information Services (IIS) provides web services on Windows. A key part of IIS is its security database, sometimes called the “metabase”.

The IIS security database contains a list of security settings for IIS. It includes user permissions for accessing web sites. It also contains configuration parameters for virtual web sites, virtual folders, the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service, and other IIS settings.

UMove can move IIS metabase to the destination computer.

You normally change the IIS settings using the IIS MMC Console (C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc). Or click on Start -> Administrator Tools -> Internet Information Services.

The IIS security settings database is stored in the file MetaBase.bin or MetaBase.xml in the folder \Windows\system32\inetsrv. Newer versions of IIS will include additional files (for example, MBSchema.xml and MBSchema.bin.00000000h).

When you select the Advanced Option to move the IIS security settings, UMove will move the data files for the IIS metabase.

How To Move the IIS Security Settings

Note: UMove does not move the the IIS web pages, which are typically located in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot. The wwwroot folder contains the .htm and .asp files for your web site(s).

You will need to copy the IIS web pages manually.
